In 1998 a small group of researchers, supported by a grant from FAMSI, explored the secondary political center of La Pasadita.

The main group at La Pasadita has been heavily damaged by looting. The vaulted structure that once dominated the group collapsed, probably during the 1990s, as a result of its carved lintels being torn from their doorways. One of these lintels is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

In addition to carved lintels, the main structure at La Pasadita contained painted murals. Some fragments were rescued by Ian Graham prior to the buildings collapse, and are now on display in Guatemala City. Some fragments, such as this, remain within the collapsed building.

Caves are abundant around La Pasadita. All show evidence for use by the ancient Maya, and unfortunately all of those explored to this point have been scoured by looters.
